Well it was
another exciting weekend of golf on the Major Professional Golf Tours from
around the world and this week the USPGA Tour and FedEx Cup headed to Las Vegas
for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open for the second event of the
2013/14 season and it was played on the TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas, Nevada. And
it was the golfer by the name of Webb Simpson (USA) who scored rounds of 64-7,
63-8, 67-4 and a final round of 66-5 for a 72 hole total of 260-24 and he won
by six shots for his fourth win on the USPGA Tour so far in his career to date.
He won US $1,080,000 for the win and moved to first position on the current
2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $1,080,000 earned from the one
event he has played to date this season so far. Jimmy Walker (USA) currently is
in second position on that list with US $1,026,000 earned from two events he
has played to date this year so far. Webb Simpson (USA) also earned 500 FedEx
Cup Points for the win and moved to second position on the current 2013/14
FedEx Cup Points list standings with 500 points earned from the one event he
has played to date this season so far. He is 61 points behind Jimmy Walker (USA)
who currently leads that list with 561 points earned from the two events he has
played to date this year so far. From the one event Webb Simpson (USA) has
played to date this season so far he has made one cut and achieved one top ten
finish that includes the win here.
Webb Simpson
(USA) played a brilliant final round under the circumstances. He scored 66-5
which included a front nine of 32-3 which included birdies on the par four,
second hole, par four, third hole and par five, ninth hole and he made the turn
at minus twenty two and was leading by six shots. Ryo Ishikawa (Japan) went out
in 32-3 and made the turn at minus 15 and was seven shots behind the leader. Jason
Bohn (USA) went out in 32-3 and made the turn at minus 16 and was six shots
behind the leader.
Webb Simpson
(USA) played holes ten to 14 in even par and remained at minus twenty two with
five holes to play and was now only leading by four shots. Ryo Ishikawa (Japan)
played holes ten to 14 in two under par and moved to minus 17 and was now only
five shots behind the leader. Jason Bohn (USA) played holes ten to 14 in two
under par and moved to minus 18 and was now only four shots behind the leader.
Webb Simpson
(USA) played holes 15 to 17 in two under par and moved to minus twenty four
with just the 72nd hole to play and now lead by six shots. Ryo Ishikawa (Japan)
played holes 15 to 17 in two under par and moved to minus 19 with just the 72nd
hole to play and was still five shots behind the leader. Jason Bohn (USA)
played holes 15 to 17 in one under par and moved to minus 19 and was now five
shots behind the leader.
Ryo Ishikawa
(Japan) playing in a couple of groups ahead of the final group made a bogey
five on the par four, 72nd hole and finished on minus 18 after 72 holes and was
six shots behind the winner. Jason Bohn (USA) who was also playing a few groups
ahead of the final group made a bogey five and the par four, 72nd hole and
finished on minus 18 after 72 holes and was six shots behind the winner. Webb
Simpson (USA) hit his tee shot well to the right on the par four, 72nd hole. Because
he was blocked out by the trees on the right and if he tried to go over the
trees he would risk going in the water. He chose to lay up for his second shot
and left himself with about 100 yards for his third shot. He hit a good third
shot with his short wedge to about 25 feet from the pin and he now knew victory
was secured as he walked up to the green with a six shot lead. But just as a
true champion does he holed the 25 foot par putt that broke sharply from right
to left and he had won his fourth USPGA Tour event. He scored 34-2 on his back
nine and was minus twenty four after 72 holes to win by six shots!! He
celebrated with his caddie by giving him a high five and then his wife Dowd
came onto the green and gave him a kiss to celebrate.
Webb Simpson
(USA) has been playing the USPGA Tour
fulltime since the 2009 season after gaining his card at the 2008 PGA TOUR
Qualifying Tournament where he finished in tied for seventh position. He had a
fine rookie season in 2009 on the USPGA Tour where he earned just over US one
million dollars and easily keep his card for the 2010 season. In his second
full season on the USPGA Tour in 2010 he earned just under US one million
dollars and easily kept his card for the 2011 season. In his third full season
on the USPGA Tour in 2011 he had a Awesome season with earning just over US 6.3
Million Dollars and finished second on the final 2011 USPGA Tour Money list
with US $6,347,353 earned from the 26 events he played in. He also won two
USPGA Tour events with his maiden win coming at the Wyndham Championship and
his second one coming at the Deutsche Bank Championship which was the second
FedEx Cup playoff event. In his fourth season on the USPGA Tour in 2012 he had
another awesome season with earning just over US 3.4 million dollars and he won
his third event on the USPGA Tour which was his Maiden Major Championship at
the 112th US Open Championship. This win is the best way to start his 2013/14
season off and I’m sure it will give him heaps of confidence and belief in his
ability. I sure his fifth win isn’t too far off either and maybe it will happen
at the first Major Championship of the 2014 season which is the Masters Tournament in April 2014? I wish him
all the best with the tournaments he plays in the coming weeks.
Coming tied for second position at 266-18 after 72 holes was Ryo
Ishikawa (Japan); he earned US $528,000.00 for his efforts and moved to fourth
position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $
580,000
earned from the two events he has played in so far this season. He also earned
245 FedEx Cup points for his efforts and moved to fourth position on the
current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with 293 points earned from the
two events he has played to date this year so far. In the two events he has
played in so far this season he has made two cuts and achieved one top ten
finish that came here. He is in his second full season of playing the USPGA
Tour fulltime. He had an average rookie season in 2012 on the USPGA Tour by his
high standards with earning US $727,051 from the 18 events he played in and
that included making ten cuts and achieving two top ten finishes and one of
them was his career best finish to date on the USPGA Tour where he finished in
second position at the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com. He is
still very young being only 22 years of age. He is Japan’s young Golfing
Superstar and has Rock Star Status whenever he plays on the Japan Golf Tour
having already won 12 events on that tour and here they are from the first to
the most recent: 2007 Munsingwear Open KSB Cup [Jpn], 2008 Kansai Open, Mynavi
ABC Championship [Jpn], 2009 The Royal Trophy [Jpn, team], Mizuno Open [Jpn],
Sun Chlorella Open [Jpn], Fujisankei Classic [Jpn], Tokai Classic [Jpn], 2010
The Crowns [Jpn], Fujisankei Classic [Jpn], Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo
Masters [Jpn] and the 2012 Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters [Jpn]. He
finished in 13th position on the final 2013 Web.com Tour Finals Priority
Rankings and gained his full 2013/14 USPGA Tour card. He will be very pleased
with his first two tournaments to open the season with making the cut in both
of them and achieving this high finish this past week. He also in those eight
rounds has scored seven rounds in the 60’s. He seems to be taking a little bit
longer to getting used to playing on the USPGA Tour but I’m sure he isn’t too
far away from his maiden win, and perhaps it will come in the 2013/14 season? I
wish him all the best for the rest of the 2013/14 season.
The final player
to tie for second position was Jason Bohn (USA); he too earned US $528,000.00

easily kept his card for the next season every season since. He has earned over
US$1million every season so far as well except in 2008 where he only earned US $945,702.
He has won two USPGA Tour events as well so far in his career with the first
one coming in 2007 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and the second one coming
in 2010 at the Deutsche Bank Championship. I feel he is ready to win for a
third time very soon and it could happen in the 2013/14 season.
Coming in tied
for fifth position at 268-16 after 72 holes was Luke Guthrie (USA); he earned US
$210,750.00 for his efforts and moved to 12th position on the current 2013/14

career to date so far and the first one was the 2006 Frys.com Open and the

great to see him carry on that form he display on the 2013 Web.com Tour and
bring it into the first two events of the 2013/14 USPGA Tour season. His wife
is pregnant with their first child and is due around Christmas. It would be

first one was Danny Lee (NZL). He scored rounds of 71 even and 71 even for a 36
hole total of 142 even par and he missed the cut by three shots. So far this
season he has made one cut from two starts and is yet to have a top ten finish.
He current is in 58th equal position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money
list standings with US $25,857.15 earned from the two events he has played to
date so far this season and also he is in 54th equal position on the current
2013/14 FedEx Cup Points standings list with 35 points earned from the two

Zealand Golfer in the field was Tim Wilkinson (NZL) and he scored rounds of 69-2

shots. So far in this 2013/14 FedEx Cup Season from the two events he has
played in he has missed both cuts and hence he doesn’t yet have a current 2013
FedEx Cup or Money list standings ranking. Let’s hope he can make the cut in
the up and coming USPGA Tour events in the next few weeks.
Next week the
