Well it was
another brilliant weekend on the Major Professional Golf Tours from around the
world. This week the USPGA Tour and FedEx Cup had its fourth event of the
2013/14 season and it was also the final leg of the Asian swing, and it headed
to China for the final World Golf Championship event of the 2013 season which was
co – sanctioned by all the major professional golf tours from across the world
and it was the WGC – HSBC Champions and was played on the Sheshan International
GC, Shanghai, China. And it was the golfer by the name of Dustin
Johnson (USA) who scored rounds of 69-3, 63-9, 66-6 and a final round of 66-6
for a 72 hole total of 264-24 and he won by three shots for his eight win on
the USPGA Tour of his career so far. He won US $1,400,000 for the win and moved
to second position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with
US $1,400,000 earned from the one event he has played to date this season so
far. Ryan Moore (USA) still leads that list with US $1,471,000 earned from the
three events he has played to date this season so far. Dustin Johnson (USA) also
got 550 FedEx Cup Points for the win and moved to third position on the current
2013/14 FedEx Cup Points standings list with 550 points earned from the one
event he has played to date this year so far. He is 134 points behind the
current leader of the FedEx Cup who is Jimmy Walker (USA) who has earned 684
points from the four events he has played to date this season so far. From the
one event Dustin Johnson (USA) has played to date this season so far he has
made one cut and achieved one top ten finish that came right here with this
win.
Dustin Johnson
(USA) played a brilliant final round under the circumstances of leading the
tournament after 54 holes. He scored 66-6 which included a front nine of 35-1
with birdies on the par five, eighth hole and par four, ninth hole, but his
lone bogey came on the par four, first hole and he made the turn at minus 19
and was tied for the lead. Ian Poulter (England) went out in 32-4 and made the
turn at minus 19 and was tied for the lead. Graeme McDowell (NIR) went out in
32-4 and made the turn at minus 18 and was one shot behind the leaders.
Dustin Johnson
(USA) played holes 10 – 15 in two under par and moved to minus twenty one and
was now in the lead by one shot. Ian Poulter (England) played holes 10 – 15 in one
under par and moved to minus twenty and was now one stroke behind the leader.
Graeme McDowell (NIR) played holes 10 – 15 in minus two and moved to minus
twenty and was now one shot behind the leader.
Dustin Johnson
(USA) played the short par four, 16th hole very smartly by laying up with his
long iron in the fairway just short of the green. He now had a short chip shot
that he had a genuine chance to hole for an eagle two. And that is just what he
did. He moved to minus twenty three with just the final two holes to play. He
now was leading by two shots. Ian Poulter (England) birdied the short par four,
16th hole and moved to minus twenty one but was now two strokes behind the
leader. Graeme McDowell (NIR) made a disappointing par on the par four, 16th
hole and remained at minus twenty and was now three shots behind the leader.
Dustin Johnson
(USA) hit an awesome mid iron tee shot into the par three, 17th hole to six
feet below the flag stick. He rolled his six footer in the hole for his birdie
two and moved to minus twenty four with just the par five, 72nd hole to play
and now was leading by three shots. Ian Poulter (England) made a solid par on
the par three, 17th hole and remained at minus twenty one with just the par
five, 72nd hole to play and was now three shots behind the leader. Graeme
McDowell (NIR) made a solid par on the par three, 17th hole and remained at
minus twenty with just the par five, 72nd hole to play and now was four shots
behind the leader.
Dustin Johnson
(USA) showed real maturity on the par five, 72nd hole when he chose to hit a
long iron off the tee to put the ball in play in the fairway, because the day
before with a five shot lead he chose to smash it out there with his driver and
blocked it into the water hazard on the right hand side and made a double bogey.
He hit his long iron right in the centre of the fairway, and then laid up with
a mid iron for his second shot. He hit an awesome short wedge shot for his
third that spun back to within six feet of the flag stick. He now knew he had
won the golf tournament as he walked up to the green!! He stuck a good putt but
it just missed on the right hand side and he easily tapped in for his par five
and he scored a brilliant back nine of 31-5!! He finished on minus twenty four
after 72 holes to win by three shots!! He then celebrated with his brother who
is also his caddie, Austin Johnson. Then his fiancée Paulina Gretzky who is the
daughter of the world famous Ice Hockey player, Wayne Gretzky gave him a kiss
as he walked off the 72nd green to celebrate as well!! Ian Poulter (England)
made a solid par on the par five, 72nd hole and finished on minus twenty one
after 72 holes to be three shots behind the winner. Graeme McDowell (NIR) made
a solid par on the par five, 72nd hole and finished on minus twenty after 72
holes to be four shots behind the winner.

Dustin Johnson (USA) poses with the Old Tom Morris Trophy he won!! |
Dustin Johnson
(USA) has been playing on the USPGA Tour fulltime since he qualified for the
USPGA Tour by finishing in tied for 14th position at the 2007 PGA TOUR
Qualifying Tournament he has retained his full playing status on the USPGA Tour
every season since and earned at least US $1.7million every season since. He
has also won eight events on the USPGA Tour to date so far in his career and
here they are from the first to the most recent: 2008 Turning Stone Resort
Championship, 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, 2010 AT&T
Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, BMW Championship, 2011 The Barclays, 2012
FedEx St. Jude Classic, 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions and the
2013/14 WGC – HSBC Champions. The only thing that he is lacking now is his
maiden Major Championship win but it will have to wait until the 2014 season
now. He has also amassed US $21,307,913 in career earnings to date from the 142
events he has played so far in his career and he made the cut in all four Major
Championships last season and here were his results: tied for 13th position at
the Masters Tournament in April; solo 55th position at the 113th US Open
Championship in June; tied for 32nd at the 142nd Open Championship in July and
tied for eighth position at the 95th PGA Championship in August. I feel now he
is ready to win a Major Championship and it may well happen at the Masters
Tournament in April 2014? I wish him all the best for the 2013/14 season.
Coming in solo
second position at 267-21 after 72 holes was Ian Poulter (England); he earned
US $850,000 for his efforts and moved to fifth position on the current 2013/14
USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $850,000 earned from the one event he
has played in to date this season so far. He also earned 315 FedEx Cup points
for his efforts and moved to sixth position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup
Points standings list with 315 points earned from the one event he has played
to date this season so far. From the one event he has played to date this
season so far he has made one cut and achieved one top ten finish that came at
this tournament. It was a great defence of his title because he won this very
event in 2012. He has been playing the USPGA Tour Fulltime since the 2005
season and has easily kept his card from the next year every season since. He
has current career earnings of US $15,194,097 earned from the 165 events he has
played in his USPGA Tour career to date so far. He has also won two USPGA Tour
events in his career so far and they were the 2010 World Golf
Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and the 2012 World Golf
Championships-HSBC Champions. I feel he is going to win his maiden Major
Championship very soon, and maybe it will happen at the 2014 Masters Tournament
next April? It was a great way to start his 2013/14 USPGA Tour season off. I
wish him all the best with the remaining events he plays in the 2013/14 season.
Coming in solo
third position at 268-20 after 72 holes was Graeme McDowell (NIR); he earned US
$ 480,000 for his efforts and moved to eleventh position on the current 2013/14
USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $480,000 earned from the one event he
has played to date this season so far. He also earned 200 FedEx Cup points for
his efforts and moved to 12th position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points
list standings with 200 points earned from the one event he has played to date
this season so far. From the one event he has played to date this season so far
he has made one cut and achieved one top ten finish that came at this
tournament. This is his fourth full season in a row of playing the USPGA Tour
fulltime as he also plays on the European Tour full time. I am sure his second
Major Championship is not too far off? Perhaps it will happen at the Masters
Tournament next April. He has already won two events on the USPGA Tour with his
first coming at the 2010 U.S. Open Championship and his second coming at the
2013 RBC Heritage. I am sure his third win is not far off either? I wish
him all the best for the rest of the 2013/14 season.
Coming in solo
fourth position at 270-18 after 72 holes was Sergio Garcia (Spain); he earned
US $365,000.00 for his efforts and moved to tenth position on the current
2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $526,000 earned from the two
events he has played to date this season so far. He also earned 140 FedEx Cup
Points for his efforts and moved to eleventh position on the current 2013/14
FedEx Cup Points standings list with 205 points earned for the two events he
has played to date this season so far. From the two events he has played to
date this season so far he has made two cuts and achieved one top ten finish
that came at this tournament. His 63-9 was the equal low final round. He has
been playing on the USPGA Tour fulltime since the 2000 season and in the time
he has easily kept his card for the next year every season since and he has
achieved eight wins on the USPGA Tour in his career so far and here they are
from the first to the most recent: 2001 MasterCard Colonial, Buick Classic
2002 Mercedes Championships, 2004 EDS Byron Nelson Championship,
Buick Classic, 2005 Booz Allen Classic. 2008 THE PLAYERS
Championship and the 2012 Wyndham Championship. He has current career
earnings on the USPGA Tour of US $33,359,713 earned from the 262 events he has
played to date in his career so far. I feel his ninth win isn’t too far off and
maybe it could be his maiden Major Championship but he will have to wait till
2014 for that now. I wish him all the best for the 2013/14 USPGA Tour season.
Coming
in solo fifth position on 272-16 after 72 holes was Justin Rose (England); he
earned US $300,000.00 for his efforts and moved to 18th position on the current
2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $300,000.00 earned from the one
event he has played to date this season so far. He also earned 115 FedEx Cup
Points for his efforts and moved to equal twenty fourth position on the current
2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with 115 points earned from one event
he has played to date this season so far. From the one event he has played to
date this season so far he has made one cut and achieved one top ten finish
that came at this very tournament. Justin Rose (England) has been playing the
USPGA Tour Fulltime since the 2004 season with easily keeping his card for the
next year every year since. In that time he has career earnings to date of US $25,577,765
from the 231 events he has played in his USPGA Tour career to date so far. He
has already has five wins on the USPGA Tour which are the 2010 the
Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance, AT&T National, 2011 BMW
Championship, 2012 World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship and the
113th US Open Championship (Maiden Major Championship). I feel now he has won
his maiden Major Championship he will have taken a lot of pressure off himself
and I wouldn’t be surprised if he won his second Major Championship in the next
few years. I wish him all the best for rest the 2013/14 season.
Coming in tied
for sixth position at 273-15 after 72 holes was Rory McILroy (NIR); he earned
US $231,500.00 for his efforts and moved to twenty fourth position on the
current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $231,500.00 earned from
the one event he has played to date this season so far. He also earned 100
FedEx Cup Points for his efforts and moved to equal 33rd position on the
current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points standings list with 100 points earned from the
one event he has played to date this season so far. From the one event he has
played this season so far he has made one cut and achieved one top ten finish
that came at this tournament. He is now really starting to get used to his new
Nike Golf Clubs that he started to use late last year and I am sure his first
win with them on the USPGA Tour isn’t too far off? He has been playing the
USPGA Tour Fulltime for the last three season’s including this one and in 2012
he won the 2012 Final USPGA Tour Money list with US $8,047,952 earned from the
16 events he played in and that included four wins and one was his second Major
Championship win which came at the 2012 USPGA Championship. His 2013 USPGA Tour
Season wasn’t so good as he was trying to get used to his new Nike Golf Clubs,
he finished in 41st position on the final 2013 USPGA Tour Money list standings
with US $ 1,802,443 earned from the 16 events he played in which was poor by
his high standards. Here are his six wins to date on the USPGA Tour so far from
the first to the most recent: 2010 Quail Hollow Championship, 2011 U.S. Open (Maiden
Major Championship), 2012 The Honda Classic, PGA Championship (Second
Major Championship), Deutsche Bank Championship and the BMW Championship. So
far in his USPGA Tour career he has amassed US $15,391,503 in the 71 events he
has played so far in his career. I wish him all the best for the rest of the
2013/14 season.
Also tied for
sixth position was Graham DeLaet (Canada); he too earned US $231,500.00 for his
efforts and moved to 13th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list
standings with US $449,667 earned from the three events he has played to date
this season so far. He also earned 100 FedEx Cup Points for his efforts and moved
to 13th position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with
185 points earned from the three events he has played to date this season so
far. From the three events he has played to date this season so far he has made
two cuts and this was his second top ten finish of the season to date so far which
includes the one here. He has been
playing on the USPGA Tour full time since the 2010 season after gaining his
card at the 2009 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament where he finished in tied for eighth
position. In his rookie season on the USPGA Tour in 2010 he had a very good
season and earned just under one million US dollars and easily kept his card
for the 2011 season. In his second full season on the USPGA Tour in 2011 season
he sat out the majority of the campaign due to a back injury and played the
2012 season out of the Major Medical Extension category, where he had 26 events
to earn US $ 657,694 in 2012 season. In the 2012 season which was his third
full season on the USPGA Tour he earned just over a million US Dollars and
easily made the US $657,694 he required to keep his card for the 2013 season.
In the 2013 season on the USPGA Tour he earned US $2,834,900 from the 26 events
he played in and finished in twenty first position on the final 2013 USPGA Tour
Money list standings which was his best of his career to date. He also made his
rookie appearance in the Presidents Cup for Team International and played
brilliantly. I feel his maiden win on the USPGA Tour isn’t too far away and
maybe it will happen in the 2013/14 season. I wish him all the best for the
rest of the 2013 season.
Rounding out the top ten in tied for eighth position at 274-14 after 72
holes was Jamie Donaldson (Wales); he earned US $161,666.67 for his efforts but
because he isn’t a current member of the USPGA Tour he doesn’t get a current
2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list or FedEx Cup ranking. He was only playing in this
tournament because he plays on the European Tour fulltime and this WGC event
was co – sanctioned by the European Tour as well as many other Major
Professional Golf Tours from around the world. He has had a very good season on
the European Tour and Race to Dubai so far with earning € 1,075,633 from
the twenty one events he has played to date so far this season on the European
Tour and he is currently in 16th position on the Race to Dubai Money list
standings with the final two events remaining in the Race to Dubai Final Series
which will be played in the next two weeks. I wish him all the best for the
rest of the 2013 season.
Also tied for eighth position was Bubba Watson (USA); he too earned US $161,666.67
for his efforts and moved to 30th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour
Money list standings with US $206,117 earned from the two events he has played
to date so far this season. He also earned 83 FedEx Cup Points for his efforts
and moved to twenty third position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points
standings list with 123 points earned from the two events he has played to date
this season so far. From the two events he has played to date this season so
far he has made two cuts and achieved one top ten finish that came at this very
tournament. He has been playing on the USPGA Tour fulltime since the 2006
season and has easily kept his card for the following year every year since.
And he has made US One Million Dollars in all of those seasons as well. He has
already achieved four wins on the USPGA Tour and here they are from the first
to the most recent: 2010 Travelers Championship, 2011 Farmers Insurance
Open, Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the 2012 Masters Tournament
(Maiden Major Championship). I feel his fifth win on the USPGA Tour will
coming in the 2013/14 season. I wish him all the best for the rest of the
2013/14 season.
The final player to tie for eighth position was Martin Kaymer (Germany);
he too earned US $161,666.67 for his efforts and moved to 38th position on the
current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $ 161,667 earned from the one event he has played to
date this season so far. He also earned 83 FedEx Cup Points for his efforts and
moved to 49th position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points standings list
with 83 points earned from the one event he has played to date this season so
far. From the one event he has played to date this season so far he has made
one cut and achieved one top ten finish that came at this very tournament. This
is his second season playing on the USPGA Tour fulltime. He gained his full
2013 USPGA Tour card by winning the 2010 USPGA Championship which was his
maiden Major Championship. But he had a poor 2013 season on the USPGA Tour by
his standards with only earning US $882,937 from the 17 events he played in and
he finished in 94th position on the final 2013 USPGA Tour Money list standings.
He also plays the European Tour fulltime and has achieved ten wins already on
that tour and here they are from the first to the most recent: 2008 Abu Dhabi
Golf Championship, 2008 BMW International Open, 2009 Open de France ALSTOM,
2009 The Barclays Scottish Open, 2010 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, 2010 US PGA
CHAMPIONSHIP, 2010 KLM Open, 2010 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, 2011 Abu
Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and the 2011 WGC - HSBC Champions. I wish him all
the best for the rest of the 2013/14 season.
There were two
New Zealand Golfers in the field and the best of them was Mark Brown (NZL) who
scored rounds of 72 even par, 68-4, 72 even par and a final round of 71-1 for a
72 hole total of 283-5 and he finished in tied for 34th position. He earned US $64,000.00
for his efforts but because he isn’t a current member of the USPGA Tour he
doesn’t get a current 2013/14 USPGA
Tour Money list or FedEx Cup ranking. He was only playing in this tournament
because he plays on the PGA Tour of Australasia fulltime and this WGC event was
co – sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia as well as many other Major
Professional Golf Tours from around the world. Let’s hope this can give him the
confidence to have some top ten finishes on the PGA Tour of Australasia in the coming
weeks with some of the big money tournaments coming up. I wish him all the best
for the remaining events he plays in the 2013 season.
The other New
Zealand Golfer in the field was Michael Hendry (NZL), who scored rounds of 72
even par, 73+1, 73+1 and a very good final round of 68-4 for a 72 hole total of
286-2 and he finished in tied for 50th position. He earned US $49,000.00 for
his efforts but because he isn’t a current member of the USPGA Tour he doesn’t
get a current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money
list or FedEx Cup ranking. He was only playing in this tournament because he
plays on the PGA Tour of Australasia fulltime and this WGC event was co –
sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia as well as many other Major
Professional Golf Tours from around the world. Let’s hope he can take his last
round form back to the Japan Golf Tour and have some more top tenth finishes in
the weeks to come and retain his card for the 2014 season? I wish him all the
