Well it was
another awesome weekend on the Major Professional Golf Tours from around the
world. This week the USPGA Tour and FedEx Cup headed back to California for
AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro – Am and it was played on the famous Pebble
Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, California. It was a different
tournament this week because Famous Sports stars from other sports and well
known Celebrities including Movie Stars got to play with the USPGA Tour
Professionals in a Pro – Am format. And it was the golfer by the name of Jimmy
Walker (USA) who scored rounds of 66-6, 69-3, 67-4 and an average final round
of 74+2 in tricky conditions for scoring for a 72 hole total of 276-11 and he
won by a single shot for his third USPGA Tour win this season as well as his
third USPGA Tour win of his career. He earned US $1,188,000.00 for his efforts
and increased his lead at the top of the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list
standings with US $3,605,833 earned from the eight events he has played to date
this season so far. He also got 500 FedEx Cup Points for his win and increased
his lead at the top of the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with
1,733 points earned from the eight events he has played to date this season so
far. He is 757 points ahead of Harris English (USA) who is currently in second
position with 976 points earned from eight events he has played to date this
season so far. From the eight events Jimmy Walker (USA) has played to date this
season so far he has made seven cuts and has achieved four top ten finishes
which includes the win here and also his maiden USPGA Tour win that came at the
Frys.com Open in mid October last year and his second win at the Sony Open in
Hawaii in early January.
Jimmy Walker (USA) in action during the final round |
Jimmy Walker
(USA) played an average final round of 74+2 that included a front nine of 35-1
with birdies on the par five, second hole and par four, eighth hole, but made a
poor bogey at the par four, first hole. He made the turn at minus 14 and was
leading by six shots. Dustin Johnson (USA) went out in 33-3 and made the turn
at minus seven and was seven shots behind the leader. Jim Renner (USA) went out
in 36 even par and made the turn at minus five and was nine shots behind the
leader.
Jimmy Walker
(USA) played holes ten to 14 in two over par and fell back to minus 12 and was
now only leading by four shots. Dustin Johnson (USA) played holes ten to 14 in
even par and remained at minus seven but was now only five shots behind the
leader. Jim Renner (USA) played holes ten to 14 in three under par and moved to
minus eight and was now only four shots behind the leader.
Jimmy Walker
(USA) played holes 15 to 17 in one over par and now had fallen back to minus
eleven and was only leading by a single shot with just the par five, 72nd hole
to play. Dustin Johnson (USA) played holes 15 to 17 in two under par and moved
to minus nine and was now only two strokes behind the leader with just the par
five, 72nd hole to play. Jim Renner (USA) played holes 15 to 17 in one under
par and now had moved to minus nine and was only two strokes behind the leader
with just the par five, 72nd hole to play.
Jim Renner (USA)
who was playing a few groups ahead of the final group made a birdie four, at
the par five, 72nd hole and finished the 72 holes on minus ten and finished one
shot behind the winner. Dustin Johnson (USA) who was playing in the group ahead
of the final group hit the par five, 72nd hole in two shots. His putt for eagle
came up two feet short and he easily tapped in for his birdie four and finished
the 72 holes on minus ten and was one shot behind the winner. Jimmy Walker
(USA) stood on the par five, 72nd hole with a slim one shot lead having started
the final round leading by six shots. He choose a long iron off the tee to keep
the ball in play and play the hole as a three shot hole to get to the green. He
pushed his long iron well out to the right and narrowly avoided going in the
fairway bunker. He was now faced with a difficult layup shot from a tricky lie
in the rough but at least he had a clear shot from the two trees that were in
the middle of the fairway. His layup shot came to rest about 130 yards from the
green in the first cut of rough on the right. He was now faced with a short
iron that he had to land on the green if he was going to have any chance to
make his par. He lost his short iron out to the right and it just caught the
right hand side of the green leaving a very fast putt from 35 feet downhill for
his birdie and he would have to two putt to avoid a playoff. He struck his
birdie putt rather boldly and it rolled five feet past the cup. Now knowing he
had to hole the five foot putt to win the golf tournament he gathered his nerve
and composed himself. He struck a very good putt that caught the left hand side
of the cup and fell in. He showed a look of relief on his face as he pumped the
air with his fist to celebrate his win!! He then got a huge high five from his
caddie and his wife, Erin came onto the 72nd green to give him a kiss and
celebrate the win with him!!

Jimmy Walker
(USA) proved once again it is very difficult playing the final round with such
a huge lead and just like Patrick Reed (USA) a few weeks earlier at the Humana
Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation he was able to win even
though it might not have been the way he wanted too. It proves to me that he is
now a real force on the USPGA Tour and will more than likely play himself onto
the Ryder Cup Team for Team USA in late September in Scotland this year. Jimmy
Walker (USA) is just having a dream start to the 2013/14 USPGA Tour season with
getting three wins already in his first eight starts. Jimmy Walker (USA) has
been playing on the USPGA Tour fulltime for the last five seasons easily
keeping his card each season. In his last two seasons on the USPGA Tour he has
made at least one million US dollars in each. Through this win he now gets to
play in Masters Tournament in early April, Players Championship in early May
and PGA Championship in mid August. This win will also give him heaps of
confidence to know now he truly belongs out here and it shows that all the
perseverance and hard work he has put in during his career to date has paid
off. I hope he can have many more top five finishes before the season is over
and perhaps even win a WGC – Event or even a Major Championship? I wish him all
the best for the rest of the 2013/14 season.

Coming in tied
for second position at 277-10 after 72 holes was Dustin Johnson (USA); he
earned US $580,800.00 for his efforts and moved to second position on the
current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $2,179,550 earned from
the three events he has played to date this season so far. He also earned 245
FedEx Cup Points for his efforts and moved to fourth position on the current
2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with 884 points earned from the three
events he has played to date this season so far. From the three events he has
played to date this season so far he has made three cuts and achieved three top
ten finishes which includes the one here and also his win at the World Golf
Championships-HSBC Champions in China in early November last year. He scored
the lowest final round which was 66-6. He was playing with his father in law to
be who is the world famous ice hockey player, Wayne Gretzky (Canada) in the Pro – Am format because he is engaged to
his eldest daughter who is Paulina Mary Jean Gretzky. Dustin Johnson
(USA) has been playing on the USPGA Tour fulltime since he qualified for the
USPGA Tour by finishing in tied for 14th position at the 2007 PGA TOUR
Qualifying Tournament and he has retained his full playing status on the USPGA
Tour every season since and earned at least US $1.7million every season since.
He has also won eight events on the USPGA Tour to date so far in his career and
here they are from the first to the most recent: 2008 Turning Stone Resort
Championship, 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, 2010 AT&T
Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, BMW Championship, 2011 The Barclays, 2012
FedEx St. Jude Classic, 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions and the
2013/14 WGC – HSBC Champions. The only thing that he is lacking now is his
maiden Major Championship win but it will have to wait until the 2014 season
now. He has also amassed US $22,087,463 in career earnings to date from the 144
events he has played so far in his career and he made the cut in all four Major
Championships last season and here were his results: tied for 13th position at
the Masters Tournament in April; solo 55th position at the 113th US Open
Championship in June; tied for 32nd at the 142nd Open Championship in July and
tied for eighth position at the 95th PGA Championship in August. I feel now he
is ready to win a Major Championship and it may well happen at the Masters Tournament
in April 2014? I wish him all the best for the rest of 2013/14 season.
The final player
to tie for second position was Jim Renner (USA); he too earned US $580,800.00
for his efforts and moved to 33rd position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour
Money list standings with US $580,800.00 earned from the five events he has
played to date this season so far. He also earned 245 FedEx Cup Points for his
efforts and moved to 47th position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points
standings list with 245 points earned from the five events he has played to
date this season so far. From the five events he has played to date this season
so far he has made one cut and this was his first top ten finish he has
achieved to date so far this season. It was also his best finish to date of his
career on the USPGA Tour. Jim Renner (USA) had his rookie season on the USPGA
Tour in 2011 where he played in twenty two events and made eleven cuts and had
two top ten finishes. He earned US $392,945 and finished in 155th position on the
final 2011 USPGA Tour Money list standings leaving him no status on the USPGA
Tour for the 2012 season. He went to the 2011 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament
but finished in tied for 63rd position and that gained him a full Web.com Tour
card for the 2012 season. He spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons playing the
Web.com Tour full time and in the 2013 season on the Web.com tour he finished
inside the top 50 money earners meaning he had gained his full USPGA Tour card
back for the 2013/14 season. But his first four events to start his 2013/14
season were all missed cuts. This performance should give him a real boost of
confidence heading into the next few events in the weeks ahead. I wish him all
the best for the rest of the 2013/14 season.
Coming in tied
for fourth position at 279-8 after 72 holes was Jordan Spieth (USA); he earned
US $290,400.00 for his efforts and moved to 13th position on the current
2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $ 1,121,955
earned from the five events he has played to date this season so far. He also
earned 123 FedEx Cup Points for his efforts and moved to 14th position on the
current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with 528 points earned from the
five events he has played to date this season so far. From the five events he
has played to date this season so far he has made four cuts and achieved two
top ten finishes which includes the one here. Jordan Spieth (USA) made people really take notice of him in his first
ever USPGA Tour event he played as a 16 year old Amateur at the 2010 HP Byron
Nelson Championship where he scored rounds of 68-2, 69-1, 67-3 and a final
round of 72+2 for a 72 hole total of 276-4 and he tied for 16th position while
still attending the University of Texas. In the 2011 HP Byron Nelson
Championship he played in it again as a 17 year old Amateur and this time he
scored rounds of 69-1, 68-2, 72+2 and a 77+7 which was played in extremely
windy conditions for a 72 hole total of 286+6 and he tied for 32nd position. In
2012 he played in five more USPGA Tour events as an Amateur and made the cut in
three of them with his best finish being tied for 21st at the 112th US Open
Championship and he also achieved low Amateur Honours. He decided to turn
professional in December of 2012 in the midst of his sophomore year at the
University of Texas. He Monday qualified and got a few sponsor’s exemptions to
play on the USPGA Tour in the early part of the 2013 season. And he managed to
win the John Deere Classic in a five hole playoff in mid July which gave him
full membership on the USPGA Tour till the end of 2015. That win he achieved at
the John Deere Classic also earned him the last invitation into The Open
Championship in Muirfield, Scotland, that week. He joined 27 other players on
the John Deere Classic's chartered jet from Moline, Ill., to Scotland. He also
is now exempt on the USPGA Tour till the end of the 2014/15 season and he
gained a start in the Masters Tournament next April. He won the 2013 USPGA Tour
rookie of the year award. And last year he played on the winning
Presidents Cup after getting selected as a Captains pick for the US Presidents
Cup Team. He is just an Amazing talent
and now he has got his maiden USPGA Tour win I feel he can only go from
strength to strength. It is amazing to think that before the start of the 2013
USPGA Tour Season he had no status on the USPGA Tour at all. Let’s hope he can
continue this fine form throughout the 2014 part of the 2013/14 USPGA Tour
season? He is sure to be a Superstar in World Golf for many years to come. I
wish him all the best for the rest of 2013/14 season.
The final player to tie for fourth position was Kevin Na (USA); he too
earned US
$290,400.00 for his efforts and moved to twenty fourth position on the current
2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $752,352 earned from the eight
events he has played to date this season so far. He also earned 123 FedEx Cup
Points for his efforts and moved to twentieth position on the current 2013/14
FedEx Cup Points list standings with 417 points earned from the eight events he
has played to date this season so far. From the eight events he has played to
date this season so far he has made six cuts and achieved three top ten
finishes that includes the one here. Kevin Na (USA) has been playing on the
USPGA Tour fulltime since the 2004 season and has kept his card every season
since. He only played in eight events in the 2013 USPGA Tour season because of
a back injury (bulging discs) that flared up after the Masters Tournament. He
has one win on the USPGA Tour to date in his career so far and that came at the
2011 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He will be
very happy to start the season off so well. So far in his career to date he has
career earnings of US $14,016,953 earned from the 253 events he has played so
far to date in his career. Let’s hope he can continue on this form for the rest
of the season and achieve his second win on the USPGA Tour? I wish him all the
best for the rest of the 2013/14 season.
Coming tied for
sixth position at 280-7 after 72 holes was Hunter Mahan (USA); he earned US $237,600.00
for his efforts and moved to 40th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour
Money list standings with US $ 525,879 earned from the three
events he has played to date this season so far. He also earned 100 FedEx Cup
Points for his efforts and moved to 48th position on the current 2013/14 FedEx
Cup Points list standings with 243 FedEx Cup Points earned from the three
events he has played to date this season so far. From the three events he has
played to date this season so far he has made three cuts and achieved two top
ten finishes that have come in his last two starts. Hunter Mahan (USA) has been
playing on the USPGA Tour for the last nine seasons and has easily kept his
card for the next season every season since except for the 2005 season where he
had to go back the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament where he finished in tied for
ninth position and gained his full USPGA Tour status back for the 2006 season.
He has current career earnings on the USPGA Tour of US $25,284,935 earned from
the 284 events he has played in his career to date so far. He has also won five
events on the USPGA Tour so far and here they are from the first to the most
recent: 2007 Travelers Championship, 2010 Waste Management Phoenix Open,
World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, 2012 World Golf
Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and the Shell Houston
Open. I feel his sixth win on the USPGA Tour isn’t too far off and perhaps
it will happen in 2013/14 season? I wish him all the best for the rest of the
2013/14 season.
Coming in tied
for seventh position at 281-6 after 72 holes was Graeme McDowell (NIR); he
earned US $205,700.00 for his efforts and moved to Twenty Sixth position on the
current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $ 685,700
earned from the two events he has played to date this season so far. He also
earned 85 FedEx Cup Points for his efforts and moved to 41st position on the
current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with 285 points earned from the
two events he has played to date this season so far. From the two events he has
played to date this season so far he has made two cuts and achieved two top ten
finishes that includes the one here. This is his fourth full season in a row of
playing the USPGA Tour fulltime as he also plays on the European Tour full
time. I am sure his second Major Championship win is not too far off? Perhaps
it will happen at the Masters Tournament next April. He has already won two
events on the USPGA Tour with his first coming at the 2010 U.S. Open
Championship and his second coming at the 2013 RBC Heritage. I am sure his
third win is not far off either? I wish him all the best for the rest of
the 2013/14 season.
Also tied for
seventh position was Pat Perez (USA); he earned US $205,700.00 for his efforts
and moved to 16th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list
standings with US $ 966,791 earned from the nine events he
has played to date this season so far. He also earned 85 FedEx Cup Points for
his efforts and moved to 17th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money
list standings with 477 points earned from the nine events he has played to
date this season so far. From the nine events he has played to date this season
so far he has made eight cuts and achieved three top ten finishes that includes
the one here. Pat Perez (USA) since
qualifying for the USPGA Tour in 2002 after winning the 2001 PGA TOUR
Qualifying Tournament he has kept his card every season since and had his
maiden USPGA Tour win in 2009 at the 50th Bob Hope Classic hosted by Arnold
Palmer. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he won his second USPGA Tour event in
the 2013/14 season.
The final player
to tie for seventh position was Tim Wilkinson (NZL) who scored rounds of 67-5,
72 even par, 69-2 and a final round of 73+1 for a 72 hole total of 281-6. He
also earned US $205,700.00 for his efforts and moved to 57th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour
Money list standings with US $ 377,223 earned from the seven events he has
played to date this season so far. He also earned 85 FedEx Cup Points for his
efforts and moved to 74th position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup points list
standings with 181 points earned from the seven events he has played to date
this season so far. From the seven events he has played to date this season so
far he has made three cuts and achieved two top ten finishes which includes the
one here and the other one came at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in mid November
last year. He will be disappointed with his final round of 73+1 in a way
because he had a great chance to have a really high finish or even his first
win on the USPGA Tour of his career but he wasn’t able to convert the birdie
putts when they counted and made untimely bogeys at the wrong time. But at the
same time he will be pleased he was able to achieve this top ten finish because
he hit a brilliant wedge shot for his third on the par five, 72nd hole that
left him with a one foot tap in putt for his birdie for which in turn gave him
the top ten finish. Tim Wilkinson (NZL) has been playing the USPGA Tour on and
off since the 2008 season after gaining his 2008 USPGA Tour card by finishing
in tied for 14th position at the 2007 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament. He had a
fine rookie season in 2008 on the USPGA Tour with earning US $1,167,607 from
the twenty nine events he played in and achieved three top ten finishes which
included a career best to date of tied for second at the Valero Texas Open. He
finished in 92nd position on the final 2008 USPGA Tour Money list standings and
easily retained his full playing status for the 2009 USPGA Tour season. The
2009 season wasn’t as good for him as he suffered a torn ligament in his right
thumb and it required surgery. He only managed to play in 14 events where he
earned US $297,008 and achieved another top ten finish at the Verizon Heritage
where he tied for sixth position. He finished in 173rd position on the final
2009 USPGA Tour Money list standings but because he missed the second half of
the season due to injury he played the 2010 USPGA Tour season on a Major
Medical Extension, he had 12 events to earn US $365,675 (coupled with US
$297,008 he earned in 2009). But he was only able to earn $160,706 in 15 events
and he had to earn the US $365,675 he was required to keep his full playing
status and hence he lost his card and was forced back to play on the Web.com
Tour.
In 2011 he played a full schedule on the
Web.com Tour and earned US $92,747 from the twenty three events he played in
which included two top ten finishes but he finished outside the top twenty five
money earners and failed to achieve his 2012 USPGA Tour card. He went to the
2011 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament where he finished in tied for 72nd position
and gained his 2012 Web.com Tour card. In 2012 he had an average season on the
Web.com Tour with earning US $100,862 from the twenty seven events he played in
which included two top ten finishes. But again he finished outside the top
twenty five money earners and missed out on his 2013 USPGA Tour card. He went
to the 2012 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament where he finished in tied for 49th
position and gained his 2013 Web.com Tour card. In 2013 he had a very good
season on the Web.com Tour with earning US $246,540 from the 19 events he
played in and that included achieving six top ten finishes. He finished in 38th
position on the final 2013 Web.Com Tour Finals Priority Rankings list and
gained his 2013/14 Full USPGA Tour card under the new qualifying format. He
will be very pleased he was able to achieve a top ten finish at this tournament
because it guarantees him a start in the next tour event which is the Northern
Trust Open next week. I hope he can achieve more top ten finishes in the weeks
ahead and keep his full playing status for the 2014/15 USPGA Tour season. I
wish him every continuing success for the rest of the 2013/14 USPGA Tour
season.
Rounding out the
top ten in tied for tenth position at 282-5 after 72 holes was Bryce Molder
(USA); he earned US $165,000.00 for his efforts and moved to 53rd position on
the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $391,460 earned
from the seven events he has played to date this season so far. He also earned
70 FedEx Cup Points for his efforts and moved to 63rd position on the current
2013/14 FedEx Cup Points list standings with 206 points earned from the seven
events he has played to date this season so far. From the seven events he has
played to date this season so far he has made seven cuts and achieved one top
ten finish that came at this very event. Bryce Molder (USA) joined the USPGA
Tour in 2002 but his best finish was tied for 9th at the Compaq Classic of New
Orleans and he only made $US 348,028 from the 22 events he had entered and
failed to keep his card for the 2003 USPGA Tour Season. He spent from 2003-2006
on the Nationwide Tour. In 2006 he earned $US 205,413 from the 24 events he
entered and earned his 2007 USPGA Tour card. In 2007 he earned $US 257,593 from
21 events he entered so he was back to the Nationwide Tour in 2008. In 2008 he
earned $US 234,651 for the 27 events he played on the Nationwide Tour and
gained back his USPGA Tour card for 2009. He had his best year on the USPGA
Tour in 2009 earning $US 1,381,211 from the 21 events he entered easily keeping
his card for the 2010 season. In 2010 he had an even better season than the
last earning $US 1,428,438 from the 26 events he entered. In 2011 he earned his
maiden USPGA Tour victory at the Frys.com Open in his 132nd start on the PGA
TOUR at the age of 32 years, 8 months and 13 days. In 2012 he earned US $1,166,115
from the twenty five events he played in but was already exempt for the 2013
USPGA Tour season because of his win in 2011. In 2013 on the USPGA Tour he
earned US $816,922 from the twenty four events he played in and retained his
card for the 2013/14 USPGA Tour season. I wish Bryce Molder (USA) all the best
for the rest of the 2013/14 USPGA Tour season.
Also tied for
tenth position was Chesson Hadley (USA); he too earned US $165,000.00 for his
efforts and moved to 54th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list
standings with US $ 385,350 earned from the eight events he
has played to date this season so far. He also earned 70 FedEx Cup Points for
his efforts and moved to 81st position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup Points
list standings with 167 points earned from the eight events he has played to
date this season so far. From the eight events he has played to date this
season so far he has made three cuts and achieved two top ten finishes which
includes the one here and also his career best finish on the USPGA Tour to date
at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in late October last year. He
gained his full 2013/14 USPGA Tour card by finishing in third position on the
final 2013 Web.com Tour Finals Priority Rankings list. It is great to see him
carry on that form he displayed on the 2013 Web.com Tour and bring it into the
early events of the 2013/14 USPGA Tour season. His wife Amanda gave birth to
their first child Hughes around Christmas time so he would appear to have
everything going right for him in his life at the moment. It would be good to
see him have a few more top ten finishes in the weeks to come. This finish must
be really good for his confidence after missing his last five consecutive cuts.
I wish him all the best for the rest of the 2013/14 USPGA Tour season.
The final player
to tie for tenth position was Richard H. Lee (USA); he too earned US $165,000.00
for his efforts and moved to 87th position on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour
Money list standings with US $ 231,010 earned from the eight
events he has played to date this season so far. He also earned 70 FedEx Cup
Points for his efforts and moved to one hundredth position on the current
2013/14 FedEx Cup Points standings list with 131 points earned from the eight
events he has played to date this season so far. From the eight events he has
played to date this season so far he has made four cuts and this was his first
top ten finish he has achieved so far this season to date. Richard H. Lee (USA)
has been playing on the USPGA Tour since gaining his card at the 2011 PGA TOUR
Qualifying Tournament where he finished in tied for twenty fourth position. He
had a poor rookie season in 2012 with only earning US $547,733 twenty four
events he played in and ended up finishing in 138th position on the final 2012
USPGA Tour Money list standings which meant he only had semi status on the
USPGA Tour for the 2013 season. He went back to the 2012 PGA TOUR Qualifying
Tournament where he finished in tied for fourth position and gained his full
USPGA Tour card for the 2013 season. In 2013 on the USPGA Tour he had a much
better season with earning US $920,836 from the twenty four events he played in

final 2013 USPGA Tour Money list standings easily keeping his card for the
2013/14 USPGA Tour season. Let’s hope he can have more top ten finishes in the
weeks ahead. I wish him all the best for the rest of the 2013/14 season.

has now missed seven of his last eight cuts which will be disappointing for
him. He current lies in 177th position
on the current 2013/14 USPGA Tour Money list standings with US $45,657 earned
from the nine events he has played to date this season so far. He also
currently lies in 150th equal position on the current 2013/14 FedEx Cup points
list standings with 63 points earned from the nine events he has played to date
this season so far. From the nine events he has played to date this season so
far he has made two cuts and achieved no top ten finishes. Let’s hope he can
make the cut in the next event he plays? I wish all the best in his next few
tournaments he plays in.
