Thames Golf Club –
Peninsula Prime Meats Open
On
Thursday 5th July, a small field played in the July, Peninsula Prime Meats Open
with Visitors from Hauraki, Waihi and Hawkestone. Conditions were foggy for
most of the day and the course was wet under foot from the recent heavy rains. But
the greens were putting awesome. In the Men’s Division, Geoff Cook (Thames)
found them to his liking scoring 95 off his 32 handicap and returned 43 Stableford
points to win the best meat pack. Best gross score was 78 returned by Paul Mitchell
(Thames). In the Ladies Division, Barbara Ashworth (Thames) scored 96 off her
19 handicap and returned 31 Stableford points to win a nice meat pack.

Women’s Two’s: There were none.
Men’s Hidden Hole’s: Ken Purcell (Waihi) won them
with 12 points to take the Cash.
Woman’s Hidden Hole’s: Barbara Ashworth won them
with 6 points.

Saturday Scramble

players played in the Saturday scramble on Saturday 7th July in conjunction
with the final round of the Clendon Cup (Best 2 of 3 rounds to count) with a
visitor from Hauraki. It started with a cool start to the morning and fined up
to an excellent sunny day. The course was in great shape after heavy rains
during the week. Geoff Cook continued on his fine form of late and scored 97
off his 32 handicap and returned a 65 nett to win the scramble. Best gross
round of the day was a one under par 69 returned by Steve Gooder. In the
Clendon Cup, Les Wairepo returned a 66 nett to go with his previous two 67’s netts
in the first two rounds. His 36 hole total was 133 nett and he won his first
Clendon Cup by one stroke over, Bill Rendall on 134 nett.

Thursday Scramble
A
small field played in the Thursday Scramble on Thursday 12th July. It was a
pleasant winter’s day with the sun shining and light winds. Robin Stent scored
106 off his 34 handicap and returned 34 Stableford points to win the scramble
on count back.

Saturday Scramble
A
field of just under 30 Golfers including one visitor from Muriwai contested the
Court Cup (Best Nett on the day) in conjunction with the nett scramble on
Saturday 14th July. Conditions were perfect with there being no wind and the
course was unusually dry for this time of year. Sam Carswell found the
conditions to his liking scoring a two under par 68 off his 3 handicap and
returned a 65 Nett; as well as the best gross score of the day. He won the
Court Cup by two strokes.
